The BEYOND Project - Team - M Sanjeeb Hossain

M Sanjeeb Hossain is Director of Research at Centre for Peace and Justice at Brac University, Dhaka. Over the past decade, Sanjeeb’s research and writing revolved around themes within international refugee law, international criminal law, constitutional law, legal history and politics, with a special focus on Bangladesh.

Sanjeeb studied law, criminology and criminal justice at BRAC (LLB, 2010), Oxford (MSc, 2011) and Warwick University (PhD, 2018). After a year-long service at the International Crimes Tribunals (ICTs) of Bangladesh as the Researcher to the Chief Prosecutor, Sanjeeb joined the Warwick Law School in 2013 as a Commonwealth Scholar to pursue doctoral studies. As part of his doctoral research, he assessed the legality and legitimacy of the ICTs through the prism of the principle of complementarity.

Before joining CPJ, Sanjeeb was a Postdoctoral Fellow at Oslo University and a Teaching Fellow at the Warwick Law School. At Oslo, as part of the Horizon 2020-project ASILE, his research focused on the Rohingya refugee situation in Bangladesh through the prism of status, vulnerabilities and the right to work. Before Oslo, Sanjeeb taught Criminal Law, Constitutional Law and International Humanitarian Law and Armed Conflict at the Warwick Law School, first as a Sessional Tutor and then as a Teaching Fellow.
