Özlem Gürakar Skribeland is Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Department of Criminology and Sociology of Law, University of Oslo. Her PhD thesis analyzed the lawfulness of returning irregular migrants by force to transit countries, using return to Turkey as a case.

Özlem obtained her Bachelor of Laws degree (LL.B.) from Galatasaray University, Turkey, and did her Master of Laws (LL.M.) as a Fulbright Scholar at Harvard Law School, USA. Özlem is qualified as a lawyer in Turkey, England and the USA, and has practiced law at international law firms in Istanbul and London.

In the BEYOND project, Özlem’s sub-project focuses on Turkey’s relationship with the international refugee regime. She will, among other questions, explore Turkey’s geographical reservation to the 1951 Refugee Convention and its role in the UNHCR Executive Committee.
